Liverpool reportedly to rival Arsenal for the signature of wonderkid if Coutinho leaves

According to Le 10 Sport, Liverpool are mulling over a move for AS Monaco winger Thomas Lemar just in case Philippe Coutinho leaves for Barcelona.

The Reds hope to pip Arsenal, who had already seen a £44million bid turned down by the French principality outfit to the signing of the 21-year-old.

With Neymar said to be inches away from becoming a PSG player, Barcelona are expected to step up their chase of Coutinho, and it appears Liverpool are resigned to losing the dynamic player for around £70million.

Although, Liverpool haven’t tabled a bid to Monaco nor contacted Lemar’s management, it is believed he’s their backup option.

The youngster played a key role as Monaco beat PSG to the Ligue 1 title last term, scoring and assisting 14 times apiece in the process.

Lemar is actually one of the special few that can prove to be a like-for-like replacement for Coutinho at Anfield.

His dribbling and 5-star set-pieces execution apart, the Frenchman is also able to play on both wings and through the centre of the attack

One thing is for sure, he won’t be gotten for cheap from a side notorious for selling for profit, so it remains to be seen if Liverpool are ready to make Thomas Lemar their most expensive signing in history.
