As per CalcioMercato, Liverpool’s chances of signing RB Leipzig star Naby Keita has been dealt a big blow as Inter Milan have now entered the race to lure the Guinean international away from Germany.
Leipzig have played hard ball over allowing the explosive box-to-box leave, and their stance has frustrated Liverpool’s efforts and many bids.
The Reds believe signing the 22-year-old should be less complicated next summer as he is almost certainly not departing the Bundesliga this summer.
However, the Serie A giants have plans to also table a bid come 2018, and they could prove to be a bigger hurdle to scale for Liverpool.
Manager Jurgen Klopp hasn’t been able to identify another replacement for Keita in the market, and is left with no other choice than to make do with the current crop of defensive midfielders within his rank.
Emre Can’s contract talks could get sorted out soon, and the German can continue to provide Klopp with a quality choice.
Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson are also able to deliver the goods in deep midfield, so there should hardly be any worries that Keita isn’t snapped up this window.
Things could be different next summer, though, with Inter set to be another stumbling block in Liverpool’s path to their man.
