According to The Sunday People, Everton’s chances of landing Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson may now hang on the club’s youngster Callum Connolly.
The 19-year-old defender spent last season on loan at Championship side Wigan Athletic, and could be sent on another season-long loan to Swansea as part of a new offer for the signature of Sigurdsson.
The Toffees have been frustrated in their attempts to get a deal for the Iceland international over the line, with the Swans rejecting both bids tabled.
Boss Ronald Koeman has offered the Welsh team £40million and another £45million depending on add-ons, but they have held out for £50million for their star possession.
Offering Connolly, who has played one EPL game for Everton as part of what is expected to be a final bid, is a win-win for both clubs and players involved.
The Merseysiders get their man, Swansea get a promising backup centre-back added to their squad, Connolly gets a chance to taste more top flight action, while Sigurdsson gets a move he reportedly desires.
