Southampton striker Charlie Austin has revealed that his club will welcome back team-mate Virgil van Dijk back into its fold should his expected move to Liverpool stall.
The 26-year-old van Dijk has been linked with a move to the Reds and has since also informed the club that he wishes to leave and has been training on his own.
The Dutch international van Dijk was not used during the Saints 2-2 draw pre-season draw with Brentford and will play no part in the clubs pre-season tour of France which will commence this week.
Nonetheless, Austin has nowsaid that his team-mate will be welcomed back into the fold should the deal collapse, “Virgil has his own situation going on.
“The lads are professional enough to know what they need to do for themselves to make sure we’re ready for the 12th. He’s the captain so someone of that class you’d want to be involved.”
