Liverpool handed boost in their hopes of signing top target

The summers longest-winding transfer saga could yet have a surprise ending. According to The Sun, Virgil Van Dijk has told Southampton that he wants to move to Anfield.

It was reported that the Dutch international wanted to play under the tutelage of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, but a breach of transfer regulations by Liverpool caused Southampton to threaten legal action against the Reds.

Liverpool then promptly issued a public apology and moved to distance themselves from the player and promptly ended any rumors linking them to the player.

It appears, however, that Van Dijk has his heart set on the Reds, and could yet force a transfer through to Merseyside.

The addition of Van Dijk would not be cheap, with a price of £60m being touted for the stalwart defender. He would add a level of style and grit that is currently lacking in the Liverpool backline, and would surely enhance The Reds’ chances at mounting a title challenge this year round.

Whether the move will happen or not remains to be seen. Only time will tell whether this saga leaves Liverpool or Southampton fans satisfied.
