Lucas Leiva has ended his ten year association with Liverpool and joined Lazio for £5 million.
The Brazilian joined the Reds for the same price from Gremio in 2007 and had gone on to establish himself as a hero to many fans of the club.
He played alongside club greats Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard and was also voted as Liverpool Player of the season in 2010-11.
During his time with the club, Lucas made 346 appearances. He will be missed by many of the clubs fans, but Lazio will be a good chance for him to start playing regular first team football again.
The 30-year-old has been viewed by Lazio as a replacement for Lucas Biglia, who left the club to join AC Milan for a deal believed to be in the region of £15 million.
Following the move, Lucas expressed his gratitude to Liverpool saying, “Liverpool as a club and Liverpool as a city is a unique place. I think it’s different from everywhere.
“The fans are a big part of the club, probably the most important part of the club, and without them Liverpool wouldn’t be the same club I would say.”
