Liverpool reportedly handed huge boost in their hopes of completing £60million deal

According to reports, Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk wants to leave the Saints and join Liverpool ahead of next season.

The Reds have been strongly linked with the Dutch international as they look to bolster their side ahead of their Champions League participation next season.

However their hopes of signing the player seemed to have been dashed after the Saints reported the Reds for tapping up the player, which resulted in Jurgen Klopp’s side having to issue an apology

It has since emerged though that the Reds could still manage to complete a transfer, with the player rumoured to hand in a transfer request to his club.

Van Dijk has established himself as one of the most highly rated defenders in the Premier League and should a deal take place; he is likely to cost £60 million.

Liverpool have bought many players from Southampton during recent years and among them are Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren.
