Don Hutchinson has revealed that he feels that Everton’s summer spending spree has left them closer than ever to overhauling their Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
The Toffees have been one of the most active teams in the transfer market thus far thus summer recruiting the likes of Cuco Martina, Wayne Rooney, Jordan Pickford, Sandro Ramirez, Michael Keane and Davy Klaasen as they look to challenge for a place in the top four next season.
Hutchinson has played for both Merseyside giants. Between 1992 and 1994, he made 60 appearances for Liverpool before going on to later become captain of Everton.
He has now warned that Ronald Koeman’s side could go on to overhaul Liverpool, saying, “Right here right now you’re looking at Everton maybe being very close to overhauling Liverpool next season.
“I think Wayne Rooney is a great signing. I think he’ll get his mojo back. I don’t think he was in a good headspace last year.
“Young Jordan Pickford cost £30m and he could be Everton’s number one for the next 10 years, Sandro’s a very good player and I saw Davy Klaassen a lot for Ajax as well.
“So they’re building a very good squad and if they can get Gylfi Sigurdsson through the door what a window they’ve had.”
Everton have made some quality signings this summer and there is no doubt that they will be one of the more exciting teams to watch for next season.
