Celtic could make a shock move for 25-year-old ex-Liverpool and Tottenham man

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has not ruled out the possibility of signing experienced defender Steven Caulker.

The troubled 25-year-old Caulker and Rodgers enjoy a good relationship especially as the player formed a key part of the manager’s plans whilst he was in charge of Swansea six years ago.

Caulker recently admitted that he had been on the verge of suicide due to his battles with alcohol and gambling problems.

However, Rodgers has not ruled out the possibility of signing Caulker, who has one year remaining on his current deal with QPR.

Speaking about a conversation with Caulker, Rodgers did reveal that he feels that it may be too early to offer the defender something firm while also explaining, “I spoke to him as a former manager.

“The kid messaged me. He has been suffering for the last period of time and he looked to me as someone who looked after him when he was 19 and I was only too happy to reach out and help him.

“We spoke at length about his life and his situation and just where he is at. He is a boy that if he can get it together and find peace, then he is an awesome talent. He is 6ft 3in, quick, strong, he can play. You would take him to war with you.”
