Newcastle United are aiming to beat Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Florian Lejeune, according to reports.
The Magpies have reportedly already made a formal offer for the Frenchman and are prepared to pay his transfer fee in full, which should be in the region of £8.7 million. The 26-year-old Lejeune is also reportedly keen on a move to England.
Newcastle will likely step up their interest in signing Lejuene especially after their chances of signing Ruben Semedo looks slim, with the player reportedly closing in on joining Villareal.
Newcastle are looking to bolster their squad this summer ahead of the Premier League next term. Many feel that the current team, as it stands, is not good enough to compete in the English top flight.
Plenty of work will take place during the coming weeks as Rafa Benitez looks to build a squad that can be competitive next season.
