Everton star admits he thought his time in Europe was up

Everton defender Ashley Williams has admitted that he has recently had thought that his age would prevent him from appearing in a European competition.

Williams last played in the competition during the 2013-14 season with former club Swansea, as they reached the last 32. During the knockout stages, the Swansea side came second best against Napoli, drawing 0-0 at the Liberty Stadium before losing 3-1 in Naples.

The Welsh international Williams is now looking forward to another European competition and said, “I enjoyed it last time. I’m definitely looking forward to it next season.

“I didn’t know if I’d get to play in Europe again, being 32, but I’m happy we’ve achieved it and excited to be part of it next season with Everton.”

Following his move from Swansea to Goodison Park last summer, Williams has become a regular feature for the Everton side and made 39 appearances in all competitions last season for Ronald Koeman’s side.
