Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has thanked Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, with whom he spent the second half of this past season on loan as he prepares to return to Newcastle United.
After failing to earn regular game time with Ajax during the first half of the season, Krul joined AZ for the second half.
Though Krul’s goalkeeping was subjected to mixed reviews during his time with AZ, he did play in the teams Dutch Cup final defeat at the hands of Vitesse as well as in the club’s Eredivisie Europa League playoff loss via penalties to Utrecht.
Rafa Benitez opted to send the 29-year-old Krul out on loan this past season in order to become match fit again after sustaining a serious knee injury in October 2015.
Krul thanked fans of AZ for allowing him to play at the club by saying, “I would like to thank everyone at AZ for the pleasant time I have had here. It was a shame we couldn’t finish the season with a nice trophy but unfortunately that is football.”
