Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot is expecting a tough fight for the first choice goalkeeping position at the Magpies next season.
Though Elliot served mainly as backup to Karl Darlow last season, he managed to win the first choice position for the last two games of the season as Newcastle clinched the Championship title.
When talking about the competition that will take place for the Newcastle first choice shot-stopper position, Elliot said, “I will enjoy my break first, but then we are all looking forward to getting back. I have absolutely no doubt we will all be raring to go and ready for the battle.”
According to reports, manager Rafa Benitez is also looking to sign former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who is said to be unsettled with current club Napoli.
Should Reina end up signing for the Magpies he will reunite with Benitez, the manager who introduced him to English football with Liverpool.
Elliot will also have to compete against experienced Dutchman Tim Krul who is set to return to the club after a loan spell with Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.
