According to reports, West Ham are set to challenge Tottenham in the race to sign Everton star Ross Barkley and are willing to meet the players wage demands of £140,000-a-week.
Everton are reportedly set to sell Barkley after the player failed to meet the deadline given to him by the club to sign a new contract.
West Ham are also looking to bring in quality players into their squad in order to improve the performances following a disappointing season. The Hammers have already recruited Pablo Zabaleta, who was released by Manchester City.
The 23-year-old Barkley is likely to choose Tottenham over West Ham as they offer him the prospect of Champions League football. In addition to that, Spurs are able to challenge for the Premier League title and will allow the player to link up with his close friend and fellow international Dele Alli.
Barkley’s strained relationship with Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is thought to have contributed to his decision not to sign a new contract with the Merseyside club.
