Newcastle defender DeAndre Yedlin has revealed that he received advice from former Magpies star Obafemi Martins which remains with him to this day.
The 23-year-old Yedlin said, “Obafemi Martins told me in everybody’s career, there’s going to be at least one point that you’re just going to hit a wall.
“Whether it’s an injury, whether you’re just stressed out…nothing’s going right. There’s going to be some sort of bad time in your career.”
Martins and Yedlin were previously team-mates at MLS club Seattle Sounders. During his time with the Magpies, Martins was a fan-favorite and went on to notch 37 goals from 110 appearances in all competitions with club. The 32-year-old Martins now plays his football in China for Shanghai Shenua.
There is no doubt that Yedlin will receive regular game time next season as Newcastle prepare for life in the Premier League and his pace will be of particular importance.
