Veteran Everton defender Phil Jagielka has admitted that he feared his time at the club could be over, after being demoted to the bench for nearly two months earlier in the season. After much speculation emerged, linking the 34 year old with a move away from Goodisan Park during the summer, Ronald Koeman has insisted that he sees a role for Jagielka at the club next season.
Jagielka has started the past nine games and should play a role in the Merseyside clubs final games of the season.
“I’m delighted,” Jagielka said. “It was hard not to play, I’ve got my own standards and my own belief and it was difficult not to play. Obviously, you start doubting your importance to the team but you would have to ask the manager that and see what sort of answer you get”.
While Jagielka may not play every game next season due to injury, his vast experience at the highest level could continue to benefit Koeman’s side.
