Vernon Anita, whose current deal with Newcastle expires at the end of the season, has said (Chronicle Live) that he is waiting for the club to present him with a new offer. The Netherlands international has made 31 appearances this season.
Though he is not a regular starter, Anita has done a solid job whenever called upon. Rafa Benitez’s side is set to undergo significant squad changes during the summer, as they look to build a team that is competitive in the Premier League next season.
It remains to be seen whether the club decides that Anita is surplus to requirements or whether they would like to keep him. During his five years at the club thus far, the 28 year old has amassed 148 appearances. Offering him a new contract would be a good choice, considering the experience he has of competing at the highest level.
