According to reports from Liverpool Echo, Everton manager Ronald Koeman is planning to try and convince his club to fork out £55 million to lure Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk.
Van Dijk has displayed impressive performances for the Saints over the past two seasons and is now regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Due to the sheer interest that clubs have in him, it is very unlikely that he will be a Southampton player next season. He will be keen to join a club which can offer him the prospect of European football.
With Ashley Williams ageing and Ramiro Funes Mori being less than convincing this season, Van Dijk would definitely be a good addition to Koeman’s side. They will however possibly have to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool who are also interested. However, Koeman has not given up hope and is set to receive a big transfer budget.
Though this would be a great addition for Everton, even if the Board coughs up that much money, it is quite possible Van Dijk will want to end up with a top of the table team
