Former Newcastle United first team coach Steve Stone believes that Jermain Defoe will be a good signing for the Magpies.
Rafa Benitez’s side gained promotion to the Premier League on Monday by recording a 4-1 victory over Preston North End and with Sunderland bound to be relegated this season, Defoe will be searching for a new club to continue his time in the top flight.
Stone said, “Defoe has been bandied about here for the last four or five months due to the plight Sunderland are in and the fact that he probably will leave, he’d be a great signing for Newcastle”.
Newcastle will be aiming to add new players to their side during the summer in order to be competitive in the Premier League next season.
Given that Defoe is vastly experienced and has proven this season that he can still score goals at the highest level, he may be a good signing.
