Newcastle United receive fitness boost regarding key defender

Deandre Yedlin

DeAndre Yedlin is progressing well from his thigh injury and is set to training again with the first team, according to Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez. The American last played for his club during their 3-1 win over Huddersfield early last month.

Yedlin has been a solid performer for the Magpies this season and could possibly play in the team’s vital last five matches of the season as they aim to win the Championship title.

Though Yedlin has returned to training with his club, manager Rafael Benitez confirmed that he is still in the early phase of the road back to fitness, saying, “The injuries are more less the same. Yedlin has trained today, Rolando Aarons has trained, but we don’t want to risk them until they are fully fit.”

Since signing from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, Yedlin has made 28 appearances thus far this season. Yedlin’s blistering pace is one of the best characteristics he possesses.
