Although he has struggled for game time for Newcastle this season, Aleksandar Mitrovic is set to start for his country Serbia when they take on Georgia on Friday.
Mitrovic is currently the Magpies’ third choice striker behind the likes of Dwight Gayle and veteran Daryl Murphy. Nonetheless, the 22 year old scored vital goals for Serbia during their games against Austria and Wales and is expected to start ahead of youngster Uros Djurdjevic.
The words of Serbia boss Slavoljub Muslin, who recently indicated that he is not concerned about the game time at club level that his players receive, will do Mitrovic’s chances of starting good.
Serbia face a tough fight to compete for a place in the top two of their World Cup qualification group as they also have to square off against the likes of Wales as well as Ireland.
Despite not selecting Mitrovic for much of the season, Magpies boss Rafa Benitez recently revealed that the forward is “training well”.
