Newcastle reportedly ready to keep hold of popular star next season

Newcastle United are expected to retain the services of Aleksandar Mitrovic at the end of the season, even though they are still reportedly interested in signing a new striker.

The Serbian international, who has bagged six goals this season, has been in and out of the Magpies first team and many have speculated that he may be sold during the summer. Napoli, West Ham and Swansea City were all reportedly interested in the services of the 22 year old.

However it now appears that Newcastle are prepared to keep Mitrovic and that he wishes to stay, having now settled down in Tynside.

When asked about why he remained at the club after they were relegated form the Premier League last season, he said, “I stayed here because I wanted to get the team back to the Premier League. I want to try to help the team to get back. We’re on a good run now, though, and hopefully at the end of the season we’ll be back.”
