Everton fans blast their own player after Tottenham defeat

Gareth Barry has drawn criticism from some Everton fans after his performance during the Toffee’s 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday afternoon.

The 36-year-old lined up in midfield alongside Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin. However the trio were largely unimpressive throughout the game as Harry Kane netted a brace and Dele Alli scored for Spurs.

For the Everton side, this was not the worst of performances as they managed to find the net through Romelu Lukaku and Enner Valencia, however for the veteran Barry, the match was one to forget.

There were fans who went as far as claiming that they would not want to see Barry in the lineup again while others had claimed that they knew the game was over when he was included from the start.

Alan Newton tweeted, “We barely even turned up today. But I put most of that squarely with the Manager who set the tone picking Barry and changing formation #EFC”, while Sean O’ Neill tweeted, “Manager has to take the blame for me starting Barry in a game where running was always going be key #efc #shocker #areowndownfall.”
