Daryl Murphy has become a fan favorite of Newcastle United fans after a recent run of good performances for the Magpies.
The Irish striker scored a fantastic goal during Newcastle’s impressive 3-1 over third placed Huddersfield which took them 11 points clear off their opponents on the standings.
The win also saw the Tynside club gain a commanding lead over title rivals Brighton and Hove Albion, who they now lead by five points.
After his impressive display against Brighton, Murphy was handed a start despite Dwight Gayle being fit again. The 33 year old made the most of the opportunity given to him, bagging his fifth goal of the season.
Murphy has begun to repay Magpies manager Rafa Benitez for the confidence that he showed in him and fans are also taking a liking to the role he is playing for the club.
A Newcastle fan, Lewis Whitehead said, “For me, Daryl Murphy has already repaid his £3million fee.”
Andrew McVittie added, “Hardly any #nufc fan rated the signing of Murphy in August. Rafa’s decision to bring him in was spot on. He’s making the difference.”
Elsewhere, Liam Ritchie said: “Daryl Murphy is another Leon Best, we write them off before they sign then they turn into heroes.”
