Everton manager Ronald Koeman has claimed that Leighton Baines is one of the best performers for the club as the defender is set to play his 300th League game for the Toffees.
The 32-year-old is set to reach the landmark by starting on the left in Koeman’s defence against Sunderland at Goodison Park. During an interview with the Toffees’ club website, Koeman hailed Baines and said that his influence extends beyond the pitch.
Koeman said: “We are really lucky to have Leighton at a good level and at good fitness. He’s been one of the best players in the last few games.
“I like him as a player and as a person as well. He is important for younger players. He’s that professional player you want in the team as a manager.”
Baines has played a key role in Everton’s recent good run of form, starting the last five games in which they have claimed 11 points.
