Klopp Heaps Praise on First-Year Liverpool Midfielder

When Liverpool signed Gini Wijnaldum back in the summer, there were more than a few heads turned.  First off, there was the issue of quite a lot of money being shelled out to a player that had just experienced relegation.

Then, there was the fact that Liverpool already had a ton of creative midfielders at their disposal.  Where would Wijnaldum fit in through all of this? Right from the get-go, we’ve seen manager Jurgen Klopp play him in a more traditional midfield role.

And Klopp is pleased with the progress the Dutchman has been making of late.  Klopp, speaking to the Daily Mirror, said he shows “a really good combination of an aggressive, defensive midfielder plus a creative, offensive midfield player,” before stating that “he has formed a good partnership with Jordan Henderson.”

There were some doubts at the start of the season.  There was little doubt about his attacking potential, but would he be good enough to play in this role?  So far, he has proven he is good enough and it’s quickly becoming apparent that he’s a better option than Emre Can.
