Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers feels that his star striker Moussa Dembele has the same potential as the likes of Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho.
Rodgers worked with both players during their formative years at Liverpool. Sterling later moved to Man City in a big-money move while Coutinho has become a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Dembele, who joined the Hoops in the summer, has already scored 26 goals in all competitions this season. Almost all major clubs in Europe are reportedly tracking his progress at Celtic Park.
“He’s got huge potential,” the Hoops boss said in the Evening Times.
“He’s just turned 20 years of age. I’ve worked with some really top young talents. I took Coutinho from Inter Milan at 19, Sterling at 17, Suso I put in the team and he’s at AC Milan now.
“He’s certainly up there with the big talents. He has a fantastic mentality which helps him. He has talent but he’s also very focused on being a footballer.”
The 20-year-old, who has played for France U21 side at the international level, has scored back-to-back hat-tricks in his last two appearances for the Celts.
Rodgers is confident that Dembele will go on to become an integral part of France national side in the coming decade.
He added: “There’s no doubt in the next decade he’ll be leading France and being a real reference for the full national team.
“If he keeps the mentality that he has now, which is to work, to improve and be better, then he can achieve what he wants to achieve. He has all the qualities and he’s a good guy as well.”
A Recent report from the Sun claims that Chelsea and Arsenal will be competing for the services of the £40m-rated player in the summer.
