Everton star happy with added competition despite losing his place in the side

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has welcomed the new competition he faces at the Merseyside club after returning from the African Nations Cup where he represented Senegal.

The 27-year-old was arguably the best Everton player during the first half of the season, however is not certain of a starting position in the team at the moment.

While he was away, Morgan Schneiderlin arrived at the club from Manchester United and young academy product Tom Davies also took full advantage off the opportunities given to him to establish himself within the first team.

Gueye did not play during Everton’s 6-3 win over Bournemouth during the weekend and it remains to be seen what his role will be ahead of Everton’s Saturday clash against Middlesbrough.

He said, “There’s really good quality, tough competition but good competition, which is good for the team. It’s (Schneiderlin’s arrival) a really good signing for us and training has gone well so far I’m not surprised about Tom. He’s shown it on the pitch when we train and he has a lot of talent.”
