Newcastle United left back Massadio Haidara has insisted that he is back at full fitness and wishes to be part of Newcastle’s Premier League promotion bid despite being hampered by injuries this season (via the Chronicle).
Over the past two seasons, the 24-year-old has had injury problems. In 2017, he made two FA Cup appearances which included the shock defeat to Oxford United last Saturday.
After the shocking exit at the hands of Oxford, Haidara maintains that the focus within the team is now on winning promotion to the Premier League. He feels that he is ready to play a role within the team and has spoken to manage Rafa Benitez about his role going forward.
Haidara was utilized as a centre back in a defensive trio against Oxford United, however he has insisted that despite not being familiar with the position, it was not to blame for their defeat.
The embarrassing defeat for Newcastle as is the case for other big name teams which suffered eliminations was due to massive squad rotations.
