Chelsea continued their pursuit of the Premier League title with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Hull City last weekend and then followed it up with a regulation 4-0 triumph over Brentford in the FA Cup.
Now Chelsea focus their attention towards the league once again on Tuesday night and with a clash against title rivals Liverpool up next, the Blues will surely want to claim a victory from the encounter.
Here is the strongest possible Chelsea lineup for the clash against Liverpool –
Goalkeeper
Thibaut Courtois was handed a well deserved rest in the weekend FA Cup clash and he is now surely set to return between the sticks for Chelsea, with Asmir Begovic making way.
Defence
John Terry and Kurt Zouma were handed rare outings in central defense against Brentford while Cesar Azpilicueta continued in the starting lineup.
It is now widely expected that the regular duo of Gary Cahill and David Luiz will be returning to the lineup and as a result, Terry and Zouma will have to make way.
In the wing back positions, Pedro and Nathan Ake started but one can be sure that the first choice duo of Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso will be back into the side on Tuesday night.
Midfield
Cesc Fabregas and Nathaniel Chalobah were also given rare outings in the tie with Brentford but the first choice duo of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic are certain to return to the middle of the park against Liverpool.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Wilian are also expected to drop down to the bench, with Pedro Rodriguez and Eden Hazard starting on the attacking wide positions.
Attack
Diego Costa was unsurprisingly handed a rest in the FA Cup and he will now surely be raring to go in the clash with Liverpool, especially given his fractious recent history with the Reds.
