Liverpool vs Wolves: Preview

Liverpool come off the back of some terrible form of late, and they’ve just been knocked out of the EFL Cup at Anfield on Wednesday night.  On Saturday, at lunch time, they’ll host Wolves before hosting Chelsea in just three days time.  So what do we expect to see against Wolves?

Expect Liverpool to play a fairly young side.  Jurgen Klopp has done this since he’s taken charge at Anfield in this competition, and he knows a good result against Chelsea is a must.  Make no mistake about it: this is a massive match for the young players.  A loss likely means little or no more football for them this season.

Opponents Wolves, opposition that caused the Reds lots of troubles just a few years ago in the Premier League, are currently toward the bottom of the Championship in 18th place.  The are seven points above the drop, so they should be safe to give it a full go at Anfield.  This will be much more high-quality side that what Plymouth threw at Liverpool’s youngsters in the last round.  Watch out for Andi Weimann, formerly of Aston Villa, to be a thorn in Liverpool’s side yet again.

This match should go to Liverpool, but it is the FA Cup and anything can happen.  Liverpool supporters must back the team here, even if they start slowly.  We know Wolves will set up defensively; it’s just about how Liverpool breaks them down.  Or doesn’t.
