Report: Update to Everton’s cheeky £8 million bid for midfielder

Everton reportedly tried their luck to sign Werder Bremen midfielder Thomas Delaney before he even made his debut for the club but had their offer rejected.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Toffee’s made an ambitious £8 million offer to sign the Danish midfielder last month which was just seven days after he joined the club for £1.5 million from FC Copenhagen.

Ronald Koeman is reported to have had scouts watch over Delaney last season but did not make an offer for the player which allowed Bremen to sign him.

Everton are said to have initially made a £5.5 million bid and after having that rejected returned with an £8 million offer which was also turned down. It is now a given that Everton will not sign Delaney during this transfer window.

He played all 90 minutes during Bremen’s 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund last Saturday and Fifa rules state that a player cannot play for more than two clubs in a season. If Everton want the player, they will have to make a bid during the summer.
