Liverpool Boss Admits Transfer Failures

After a downturn in form since the beginning of the New Year, Liverpool have fallen off the pace in the Premier League and are teetering on the edge of elimination in the EFL Cup after a first leg defeat.  All of this has been compounded by the fact that Liverpool have not been able to strengthen.

After claiming that English people were ‘obsessed’ with transfer, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has finally admitted that he and his staff have attempted to sign players in this window (ESPN).  He blames the winter transfer window as he stated that “clubs are saying ‘no, we have half a year to go.  We cannot find another player like this.’”

This is a fact of life in the January window.  Smart sides never sell in this window unless they have a ready-made replacement available.  This is sensible stuff, but it makes it very difficult when a team is in a legitimate need for improvement.

Klopp is simply stating his frustration that they’ve not been able to find players that will truly make the side stronger.  He knows Liverpool’s previous dealings.  He knows that players found themselves under pressure before a ball was even kicked.

Liverpool have really missed Sadio Mane, and it looks like they will just have to trudge on without.  Klopp must find an answer as Liverpool truly start a pivotal week on Wednesday as Southampton will come to Anfield for the second leg.  Then they host Wolves on Saturday in the FA Cup and Chelsea on Tuesday.  All could be well again, or it all could be blown to pieces.
