According to reports, Everton are monitoring the versatile Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic for a move in this window. This is said to be a reaction to the apparently imminent departure of long time Toffees center back Phil Jagielka.
Ivanovic, 32, wouldn’t be much of an improvement in terms of age. But Ivanovic would offer some more versatility than Jagielka would. However, it’s yet to be seen if Ivanovic can rediscover the form he showed some time back in a wider role as he is getting older.
Ivanovic was a force at right back for Chelsea for years, but he’s gone down hill or late. Gone are the days where he used his power to get up and down. He’d score goals from corners and cross very well.
But he’s done that few times this season as Antonio Conte has not preferred him. With a seemingly much larger pool to pick from, it looks like Conte will probably allow the Serbian to leave in this window.
Everton seem like they’d be a good landing spot, but it’s hard to predict whether or not it will happen. We’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out.
