Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote is hoping to secure a move to Chinese Super League in January, according to Sunderland Echo.
The 30-year-old came close to joining Shanghai Shenhua last winter, but his proposed £4million move never materialised.
Now, the Ivory Coast midfielder is hoping to finally secure a big-money transfer by moving to the Far East this January.
La Liga side Sporting Gijon have also expressed an interest in the player, but the report claims that he would prefer a move to China as he expects to earn more money in the Chinese League.
Tiote has six months left on his current deal with the Magpies, and he seems to have the blessing of manager Rafa Benitez to leave the club in the ongoing transfer window.
He made 139 league appearances after joining the Magpies in 2010, but, this season, he has managed only 16 minutes of league action.
