3 Mediocre Everton Players Who Must Improve in 2017

Source: Wikipedia

Everton currently sit at 7th in the Premier League table. Although most fans expected more from the new manager, Ronald Koeman, it seems that position number seven is their reality. Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United are the teams that are aiming for the title and it is hard to expect Everton can upset any of them.

Everton had a crisis in October and November and they won only one out of their ten Premier League matches. With three victories in their last five games it seems they are getting back on the right track, but there are several players who aren’t performing as expected this season. These are the top three disappointing Everton players so far:

3 Aaron Lennon

The career of this former England international is continuing to decline. He broke into England senior squad when he was only 19, but when we look back at his career, we must realize that he was an early bloomer. Aaron Lennon simply can’t break into Everton’s starting 11. He featured in only 10 Premier League games this season (only six as a starter) and he was substituted five times. He has failed to score a single goal in the season so far.

2 Tom Cleverley

Former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has the same problem as Lennon – he can’t break into Everton’s starting 11. Once a great talent, now the 27-year-old defensive midfielder mostly spends Everton matches sitting on the bench – he was an unused substitute 14 times! However, whenever he got his chance, and he featured in 10 Premier League matches so far, he failed to impress. He scored only two goals since he joined the club in 2015.

1 Gerrard Deulofeu

Gerrard Deulofeu is the number one disappointment in Everton this year. In his first season in Everton, back in 2013/14 season, Deulofeu was fantastic. He scored three goals and had three assists as a 19 year old and he was one of the best dribblers in the league. Everton desperately wanted to keep him, but Barcelona had other plans for him. He practically lost the next season in Sevilla and when he returned in 2015/16 he wasn’t the same. Deulofeu has played only 11 matches for Everton this season and he has failed to score and record a single assist.
