3 Transfers Liverpool must make to reach the Champions League next season

2. Get a centre-back

For the large amount of good work that Klopp did at Liverpool in the last few months, all of this seemed to derail following the injury to Mamadou Sakho.

The French defender was one of the most improved players under Klopp, before a failed drug test ended his season.

Thus, even with Joel Matip arriving in the summer, the Reds face a shortage of options in the centre-back department. Combine that with a probable long-term ban of Sakho and Klopp should go in the transfer market for a new centre-back.

3. A winger

Even with Lazar Markovic coming back from his season-long loan spell, the Reds still face a shortage of options in the wing department.

While Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana both flourished in that role, they are both Number 10’s and cannot play in that position for long.

Lallana might have the trickery to succeed on the wing, however, the Englishman lacks the pace that could terrorize the opposition defenses.

As for Coutinho, the Brazilian cannot be relied upon for long – as suggested by his dismal performances in the Europa League and Capital One Cup Finals.

Thus, with a full season without European football looming, Liverpool could take advantage of their relatively free fixture list by going for quality rather than quantity.
