Report: Liverpool suffers major blow in fight for £20m Striker

According to Bild, via Irish Independent, Liverpool could fail to sign their main transfer target for the summer transfer window, as Mario Götze suggested that he would like to stay right where he is, and try to fight for his place in the first team squad under the new manager.

The Bundesliga player, who made 21 appearances and scored six goals for Bayern Munich during the 2015/16 season, was allegedly one of the Klopp’s most desired people to sign. However, Götze stated for Bild: “I look forward to the new season in Munich and will do everything possible to compete in top shape during my first training under Carlo Ancelotti.”

This could mean that Liverpool lost the race to sign him even before they have officially made any offers. On the other hand, we should remember that there was similar situation with Philippe Coutinho when he wanted to stay at Inter, but soon after that, he decided to join the Reds.

During the last season, Liverpool didn’t have much trouble scoring the goals. However, they could surely use the talent of Mario Götze, who didn’t play much under Pep Guardiola’s guidance. Maybe a switch to Liverpool could be a fresh start for German attacking midfielder, whose price is set at £20m because he only has one year left of his contract at Bundesliga champions.
