Deal close: Liverpool finally agree to match asking price of top target

Liverpool finally agree to match Inter Milan’s valuation of Mateo Kovacic – according to reports from Tuttosport

With Liverpool having eyed Mateo Kovacic as the perfect replacement for departed talisman Steven Gerrard, they have been hot in the trail of the Inter Milan star so far this summer.

As a result despite Inter stating that Kovacic is not for sale, Liverpool have been persisting in their pursuit of the youngster and it finally looks like the Reds will be able to land the services of their coveted target after reportedly agreeing to match the Italian side’s valuation of the player.

Kovacic finally set for Liverpool move

Liverpool had unsuccessfully placed a bid of around £15million for Kovacic last week and after having the offer rejected, it seemed like the Reds would be missing on the signing of the midfielder.

However according to Italian new outlet Tuttosport, the Liverpool hierarchy have agreed to up the ante in the pursuit of Kovacic and are now ready to pay what Inter are demanding for the player – a fee close to the region of £21.5million.

While Liverpool look likely to be forced into paying way more than they initially intended, the potential capture of Kovacic can be seen as a huge coup for the Reds and the young Croatian international certainly has all the credentials to be a worthy successor to Gerrard.
