Following a torrid start, Liverpool’s season has been made worse by the announcement that captain Steven Gerrard will be leaving his beloved Anfield at the end of the current campaign.
Gerrad’s revelation has certainly shocked the Liverpool faithful but manager Brendan Rodgers for one, cannot dwell on the departure of his captain for too long as he now has a very tough job on his hands to bring back the glory days to the red half of Merseyside.
Therefore, it is already being reported that Rodger is eyeing a host of players to act as a heir to Gerrard’s throne but at the same time, the Northern Irishman is also looking to revamp his side by offloading players who are surplus to requirements.
Lucas is surplus to requirements at Liverpool
One such player whom Rodgers is trying to offload is midfielder Lucas Leiva. Lucas has found himself on the fringes under Rodgers in recent times and it is widely believed that the midfielder and the club have decided to part ways as a result.
Despite Lucas’ struggles at Liverpool in recent times, the midfielder has been eyed by a host of top clubs and it has now been reported that Italian giants Inter Milan are looking to make a £7million bid in an attempt to land the midfielder.
Lucas has been linked with Inter in the past as well and recently, it had even been claimed that the Italian side were looking to engineer a sensational move by offering Nemanja Vidic in exchange.
Lucas the next one to leave Liverpool after Gerrard
Given Vidic’s association with Manchester United, such move is unlikely to take place and it has now been reported that Inter are lining a straight cash move of around £7million instead.
Inter have been going through a bit of a revolution under Roberto Mancini in recent times and have already signed Xherdan Shaqiri and Lukas Podolski over the last few days.
Now Mancini wants to bolster his midfield with the signing of Lucas as well and at the quoted price, Liverpool will most likely have no problems in cashing in on the midfielder.
