Balotelli’s Agent working with Liverpool to bring in Argentinian Star

With just a few hours to go until the end of the Summer transfer window, the majority of European teams are still looking to make those last minute shocking deals and Liverpool appears to be no different. The Reds have been fairly busy this Summer, as they completed several quality deals in order to somewhat compensate for the void Luis Suárez’s departure has left at the team.

According to recent reports from both the English and the Italian media, and although Brendan Rodgers has claimed that he wasn’t expecting any new players at Anfield during the last days of the transfer window, Liverpool are negotiating the transfer of the Argentinean goalkeeper Sergio Romero with the Serie A historical side of Sampdoria.

The Samp’s goalkeeper shares his agent with Mario Balotelli and the media are stating that Mino Raiola has already arrived in England to complete the deal.

Romero, who had an important role at his national team during the Brazilian World Cup, embarked on a very unsuccessful season-long loan at AS Monaco, only to act as a backup goalie for the Croatian international goalkeeper Danijel Subasic. Although some have claimed that a bench warming season could have damaged his goalkeeping skills, Romero proved everyone wrong and he commanded the Argentinean defence line with mastery during the Brazilian tournament.

At the age of 27, Sergio Romero has spent almost his entire professional career at European football, first at the Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, where he arrived in 2007 from Racing Club, and four years later at Sampdoria, where he has been until today (with just a brief interruption last season) since 2011. Romero has been linked to several teams during the Summer, however, all the fuss surrounding his hypothetical departure from Samp were nothing more than mere rumours, but this time, at least judging by the media reports, he might very well be leaving the Italian football and trying his luck elsewhere.

The fact that Brendan Rodgers is looking for a quality goalkeeper is not new, especially for a player that can offer some competition to the highly skilled Belgian giant Simon Mignolet and, after letting Pepe Reina join Bayern Munich a few weeks ago, the Northern Irish manager doesn’t seem to have found yet the right man to perform such task. Judging from his already long career at the Old Continent, Romero is more than capable of providing some fierce competition to the Belgian goalkeeper, and although it is not very likely that the Argentinean goalie will agree to spend another season as a benchwarmer, it is definitely not easy to dethrone a doorman such as Mignolet.
