The next match for Liverpool in the International Champions Cup will be against Manchester City. These two clubs are not strangers to each other, as they both fought for the 2013-2014 Premier League title in a tightly contested race. Both Premier League teams will battle it out on Wednesday, July 30, at 4:00 P.M (Pacific Time) in Yankee Stadium, New York. Liverpool and Manchester City have each won their first match in the competition, but only one will continue the streak. In general, these preseason friendlies are essential for both teams because they allow coaches to test team formations and allow players to get into desired form.

Liverpool Team News

So far, Liverpool have acquired some good signings that may have gone under the radar, nonetheless, they have a lot of potential. The arrivals of Dejan Lovren, Lazar Markovic and Divoc Origi will hopefully bolster the team’s squad for the years to come. Liverpool has been signing players in what seems a regular basis this off-season, and we may just see another signing in the upcoming weeks.

On the other hand, Adam Lallana recently suffered an injury during training. He unfortunately suffered a knee injury that may keep him sidelined for a minimum of six weeks. This is unfortunate news for the Liverpool squad, considering that most players are getting a chance to play in the preseason friendlies. Additionally, Lallana will not be able to participate in the first couple of games of the Premier League. Even though Lallana is arguably one of their best signings of the summer, Liverpool has enough depth in their squad to fill in the gap. Rising players such as Philippe Coutinho and Richard Sterling are more than capable of replacing the injured Lallana.

Manchester City Team News

Manchester City has been doing well so far in the off-season, winning their first game of the International Champions Cup by four goals. The 2013-2014 Premier League Champions do not have much to prove, as they tend to always play at a high level. In the upcoming game against Liverpool we will most likely see the substitutes having more playing time than the usual starters. This may contribute to what could be a close and exciting game where two offenses will be going back and forth at each other. Summer signings such as Bacary Sagna, Fernando and Willy Caballero could make an appearance so they could get into form. Overall, Man City should be taking advantage of the fact that the International Champions Cup features a lot of exceptional teams.

Liverpool vs Manchester City Prediction

The upcoming game between Liverpool and Manchester City will be an entertaining match with both teams testing out the majority of their squad. Although it might not exactly be a preview of the Premier League football, there will surely be some intense moments throughout the game. With City most likely using several substitutes as starters, this game might just go to penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time.
