The USMNT has been absolutely fantastic in Gold Cup, it has won all 4 matches played so far by a combined score of 16-3. The only flaw in this team is the back-line, which has allowed 3 easy goals, one each against El Salvador, Belize and Cuba. Other than that, the USA has been absolutely fantastic, and is far and away the favorite to win the Gold Cup 2013 (Mexico has been mediocre so far, and, in my opinion, will not be able to defeat the USA).
This Gold Cup has helped several USA players impress Klinsmann and become real contenders for a spot in the “A” squad that will play in the Hexagonal and World Cup.
- Landon Donovan: He has scored 3 goals and has been involved in many other scoring plays. We all know he has the talent, Donovan is simply proving he is ready to return to the Hexagonal. Klinsmann will call him up, guaranteed.
- Chris Wondolowski: He has scored 5 goals and has been a solid forward. With heavy competition in the striker position, I believe Wondolowski needs to score against Honduras or in the final match to be considered to join the “A” squad. Although he has been playing well, 5 goals scored against minnows Cuba and Belize might not be enough.
- Joe Corona: Corona has been fantastic in this Gold Cup. He is a midfielder who can recover the ball, distribute it, and score (2 goals in this tournament). If he has another good game against Honduras and in the final, I believe Klinsmann will call him up to the “A” squad, where he will likely be a great substitute option.
Honduras has been average in this tournament. They defeated Haiti and El Salvador in the group stage, and lost against Trinidad & Tobago. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Costa Rica 1-0, holding on by the slimmest of margins. This team has played well when necessary, but I think they have gone as far as they will go in this tournament. They will face an outstanding USA squad that will simply outmatch them.

The USA vs Honduras match will end in an American victory. The USMNT has been outstanding in the Gold Cup 2013, and an average squad like Honduras’ will not be able to defeat the USA. Look for the USA to dominate possession, while Honduras defends and attempts to counterattack.
The USA vs Honduras match will end in a 3-1 victory for ‘Merica, which will go on to face the winner of the Mexico vs Panama semifinal. Hopefully, the final match will be against Mexico, even facing an underwhelming Mexican squad, it should provide to be the final we all hope for.
