FIFA has released its first ranking of 2022 following the last international break. Surprisingly, the Mexican national team came out as the highest ranked CONCACAF team moving to 12th place, even after currently sitting in 3rd place in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers behind Canada and the USMNT.

The team coached by Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino did not play well all of 2021 and early in 2022 qualifiers. That led them to finish 2021 ranked in 14th place behind USA who finished the year in 12th. After 2 wins and a tie to start 2022, they once again lead CONCACAF which is an accurate measure of recent historical points.

The US Men’s national team dropped to 13th place, just one position behind El Tri. Gregg Berhalter’s team suffered a 0-2 loss against Canada, hurting their chances to reach closer to the top-10.

As for Canada, they reached 33rd place, gaining seven places. This is the highest they have ever ranked, and rightfully so, since they are leading the qualifiers undefeated.
