Three Takeaways From Atletico San Luis vs FC Juarez

1. Estupinan delivers Juarez’s first away win

Juarez arrived with no away win in the Apertura 2026, taking one point from seven matches on the road. Estupiñán’s penalty changed that record in San Luis Potosi.

The goal was Estupiñán’s eighth league goal of the tournament. He had scored seven in the first 15 jornadas, including the opener in the Jornada 15 win over Queretaro.

It is also a third straight league win for Juarez over San Luis. The previous two meetings both finished 2-1 to Juarez, in Apertura 2025 at this venue and in Clausura 2026 in Ciudad Juarez.

2. Jurado’s seven saves hold the clean sheet

San Luis put seven shots on target and won eight corners. None of that produced a goal against Jurado.

Juarez finished with four shots on target from 13 attempts. Manuel Lajud made three saves for San Luis, and the penalty was the one effort he did not stop.

Juarez also committed 22 fouls to eight for San Luis. The visitors protected a scoreless match for 85 minutes, then took the one decisive chance.

3. San Luis lose a second straight home match 0-1

San Luis also lost 0-1 at home to Atlas in Jornada 15. This was their final home match of the regular season, and it ended the same way.

The defeat follows a run of two wins and a draw in Jornadas 12 to 14. San Luis have now gone two league matches without scoring.

What the Result Means

Atletico San Luis stay in 13th place on 19 points from 16 matches, with five wins, four draws and seven defeats. Their position is provisional, with the rest of Jornada 16 still to play on Saturday and Sunday.

FC Juarez stay in 18th place on 11 points from 16 matches, with three wins, two draws and 11 defeats. They were already eliminated before this match, and the win does not change their place at the bottom of the table.

San Luis are three points behind the current eighth-place total of 22 points. The top eight advance directly to the Liguilla quarterfinals in the Apertura 2026, with no Play-In.

San Luis are not eliminated. A win in Jornada 17 would take them to 22 points, so they need that win, other results to go their way, and goal difference to settle any tie. For the full fixture list, see the Liga MX schedule page.
