Edson Alvarez Left Out of Scott Parker’s First West Ham Squad

Edson Álvarez was left out of the West Ham United matchday squad for Scott Parker’s first game in charge, away at Cardiff City on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The omission means the coaching change has not reopened the door for the Mexico midfielder so far.

Álvarez, who captained Mexico at the World Cup in the summer, was not among the starters or the substitutes named at Cardiff City Stadium.

What West Ham Announced

West Ham confirmed Parker’s appointment on Wednesday morning, November 4, 2026.

The former West Ham captain signed a two and a half year contract.

The club said Parker would take charge of the team for the Wednesday evening fixture at Cardiff City.

Parker replaced Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked on Tuesday.

Nuno had frozen Álvarez out all season.

FutnSoccer covered that freeze out when West Ham sacked Nuno on Tuesday.

No Place at Cardiff

Parker named Mads Hermansen in goal behind a back four of Joel Veltman, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Max Kilman and Morato.

Soungoutou Magassa and Arne Engels started in central midfield.

Jarrod Bowen, Divine Mukasa and Manor Solomon supported Taty Castellanos in attack.

The nine substitutes were Alphonse Areola, Airidas Golambeckis, Ollie Scarles, Ezra Mayers, Lewis Orford, Tomas Soucek, Mohamadou Kante, Joel Piroe and Edvin Austbo.

Álvarez was not in that group.

No reason has been given for his omission.

The absence of Kyle Walker-Peters from the squad was explained by the injury he picked up against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

No injury or fitness explanation has been reported for Álvarez.

A Contrast in Midfield

The sharpest contrast came in central midfield.

Magassa, like Álvarez, had been frozen out under Nuno.

Parker brought Magassa straight back in for his first appearance of the season.

Álvarez did not even make the bench.

Álvarez has played just 75 official minutes for West Ham this season.

All of them came on August 8, in a 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Portsmouth.

He has not played a single minute in the Championship.

January Talk and the Mexico Stakes

The omission also lands in the middle of January exit reporting.

TUDN reporter Gibran Araige has reported that Álvarez’s representatives are looking for a way out in January.

Spanish daily AS has reported that Valencia are considering a January loan move for the midfielder.

Both reports were written while Nuno was still in charge.

Wednesday’s squad shows that a change of coach, on its own, has not changed Álvarez’s position yet.

Mexico face Jamaica in the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals this month.

The first leg is in Kingston on November 14.

The second leg is in Monterrey on November 17.

According to TUDN, Rafael Márquez will present his squad for the tie on Thursday, November 5.

Mediotiempo has reported that Álvarez will be absent from that list because of his lack of club minutes.

That absence has not been officially confirmed.

The official squad announcement on Thursday will settle it.
