Three minutes later it was 3-0. Torres set up Ocampos, who finished with his right foot from the center of the area for Monterrey’s third goal in 17 minutes.

Gerardo Espinoza made two changes at halftime, sending on Eduardo Armenta and Omar Moreno, and Monterrey replaced Carlos Salcedo with Aceves. Puebla’s best opening of the second half fell to Alejandro Organista, whose effort in the 52nd minute went just past the post.

Three Takeaways From Puebla vs Monterrey

1. Monterrey decided the match in 17 first-half minutes

The contest was effectively over before halftime. Rossi scored in the 17th minute, Cuypers in the 31st and Ocampos in the 34th, a three-goal burst that Puebla never recovered from.

Oliver Torres ran the sequence. His corner produced the second goal, and he then assisted the third and the fourth, for De la Rosa in the second half.

Monterrey finished with 11 shots, eight on target, and 59 percent possession. Puebla managed three shots on target all night.

2. Rossi and Ocampos keep carrying the Monterrey attack

Rossi has now scored in three straight league matches, after goals at Club America in Jornada 11 and against Pachuca in Jornada 12. The header in Puebla was his fifth league goal of the season.

Ocampos set up the opener and scored the third. His goal was his sixth in the league this season, and he remains Monterrey’s top scorer.

With Cuypers and De la Rosa also scoring, Monterrey had four different scorers on the night and now have 23 goals in 12 matches.

3. Puebla’s winless run reaches six, and the home problem is real

Puebla have not won since September 11 at Necaxa. Six matches have passed since then, with three draws and three defeats.

The home record is just as stark. Puebla have won once at Estadio Cuauhtemoc all tournament, and a 3-0 halftime deficit left this match gone before their second-half response arrived.

Almada’s goal was a consolation. Puebla remain on 16 points with four matches left, starting with a trip to Atlas on Sunday.

What the Result Means

Monterrey reach 20 points from 12 matches, and they still hold a game in hand, the pending Jornada 7 visit to Queretaro scheduled for November 14. Back-to-back wins have steadied their place in the direct Liguilla race with five matches left to play.

Puebla stay on 16 points from 13 matches. Four matches remain for them, and the room for error is gone after six matches without a win.

The final Jornada 13 picture settles later on Wednesday night, when Pachuca host Cruz Azul and Santos Laguna host Pumas UNAM.
