Match Preview

Group C opened with Brazil beating Canada 6-2 and Norway beating Ghana 3-0. Brazil lead the group on three points with a plus four goal difference, ahead of Norway on three points with a plus three difference.

Ghana sit third on zero points with a minus three goal difference, and Canada are fourth on zero points with a minus four difference. Ghana need a result on Wednesday to keep a realistic path to the Round of 16.

Canada and Norway meet earlier on Wednesday, and a Norway win would take them to six points. The top two in the group advance, along with the four best third-placed teams, so third place can still be enough.

Ghana close the group against Canada on Saturday, October 24. Brazil close against Norway on the same day, in a meeting of the group’s two Matchday 1 winners.

Recent Form

Brazil beat Canada 6-2 on Matchday 1. Reed Tingley gave Canada a fourth minute lead, but Helena leveled in first half stoppage time, and Brazil scored five times after the break to run away with the match.

Greise Kelly was the standout of that win. She assisted each of Brazil’s first three goals, then scored in the 63rd and 72nd minutes herself and finished as Player of the Match.

Ghana lost 3-0 to Norway. Isabella Lepore scored in the sixth minute and Maia Melgard added goals in the 13th and 80th minutes, and Ghana never found a way back into the match.

Ghana’s best moment came from the bench. Substitute Cynthia Obinsrewuo was sent clean through after halftime, but Norway goalkeeper Erla Braathen denied her the goal that might have changed the match.

Team News

Brazil are coached by Rilany Silva. They arrived in Morocco as the reigning South American U-17 champions, after winning their sixth continental title in Paraguay in May, beating Argentina 3-2 in the final.

Brazil also carry recent tournament pedigree. They finished fourth at Morocco 2025, reaching the semifinals of this tournament for the first time, under the same coach.

Ghana, the Black Maidens, are coached by Joe Nana Adarkwa. This is their seventh U-17 Women’s World Cup, but their first since 2018, when they reached the quarterfinals.

Ghana’s best finish came in 2012, when they took third place and the bronze medal. They also reached the quarterfinals in 2014, 2016 and 2018, a standard this returning group is chasing.

Key Storylines

Brazil can qualify with a game to spare. A win takes Brazil to six points and guarantees a top two finish in Group C. Greise Kelly, already with two goals and three assists, leads a side that scored six in its opener.

Ghana’s return needs a result. The Black Maidens are back at this level for the first time since 2018 and were beaten 3-0 by Norway. A point or better against the group’s early leaders keeps their knockout hopes alive.

First place is taking shape. Brazil and Norway both won their openers and meet on Saturday to close the group. A win on Wednesday lets Brazil take a firm grip on the race for first place before that meeting.
