Why It Matters
This is a direct clash between two clubs on the edge of the Liguilla race. San Luis has won its last two league games, 3-1 over Necaxa and 3-2 at Pumas UNAM, scoring three goals in each to climb within reach of the top eight. Santos has been even hotter, winning three straight: 2-1 over FC Juarez, 3-2 at Toluca and 1-0 over Pachuca. A home win would keep San Luis climbing; a fourth straight Santos victory would move the visitors one point above San Luis in the table.
Recent Form
Form below is league only, most recent first. Atletico de San Luis: W 3-2 at Pumas UNAM (September 27), W 3-1 vs Necaxa (September 19), L 0-2 at Leon (September 14), L 0-3 vs Chivas (September 5), W 3-1 at Monterrey (August 30). Santos Laguna: W 1-0 vs Pachuca (September 26), W 3-2 at Toluca (September 20), W 2-1 vs FC Juarez (September 13), L 0-1 at Cruz Azul (September 6), D 0-0 vs Tigres UANL (August 29).
Team News
San Luis remains without striker Joao Pedro, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during preseason and will miss most of the Apertura, according to the club’s official medical report. Spanish forward Rafa Llorente was signed to cover the absence and has become a regular scorer alongside David Rodriguez and Sebastien Salles-Lamonge. Coach Diego Mejia has his side playing with an attacking mindset after the morale-boosting win at Pumas. For Santos, Renato Paiva continues in charge after steering the club to three consecutive victories. Ezequiel Bullaude leads the attack with three league goals. No new injury or suspension absences were confirmed for either squad on the eve of the match.
Head-to-Head
San Luis has owned this fixture recently, winning the last five meetings. The most recent was a 2-0 home win on April 22, 2026. Before that, San Luis won 4-1 at Santos in September 2025 and 3-2 at Santos in March 2025. Santos has not beaten San Luis since November 2023.
Prediction
Atletico de San Luis 2-1 Santos Laguna. San Luis is scoring freely and has won five straight in this fixture, but Santos arrives in its best form of the season, so expect both teams to score.
