Unlike the typical two-leg home and away finals we see in the CONCACAF Champions League, this version will be played as a single match at a neutral venue in Orlando. This is being done due to the COVID-19 precautions that must be taken.
Tigres reached the CONCACAF Champions League Final after defeating Olimpia of Honduras 3-0 on Saturday. Tigres were clearly superior and didn’t face much of a challenge.
LAFC reached the CCL Final after a wild match with Club America. LAFC went into the half time break losing 0-1 and down to 10 men. However, it only took Carlos Vela two minutes to overcome the deficit and take a 2-1 lead.
LAFC scored another goal late in the match as Club America threw men forward (America at this point also had just 10 players). This crazy match featured fighting, an insane comeback, and eventually lead to the dismissal of Club America coach Miguel Herrera.
LAFC have defeated three Liga MX teams to reach the CCL Final. First, defeating Leon 3-2 with a wild 3-0 second leg comeback. Then defeating Cruz Azul 2-1, and Club America 3-1.
Now, LAFC must defeat Tigres, a very talented team that is hungry to win the CONCACAF Champions League. It should be yet another match where the Liga MX side is the favorite to win, but LAFC has shown they are more than capable.
I predict LAFC will be unable to defeat their 4th Liga MX opponent in a row, and will fall 2-1 to Tigres. LAFC have done an amazing job, but Tigres aren’t a mess like Cruz Azul and Club America, they will get the job done.
